E2K Oxygen Bomb Calorimeter System

Please note the E2K Oxygen Bomb Calorimeter System has been discontinued and is no longer available. The CAL3K-F Oxygen Bomb Calorimeter System and CAL3K-S Oxygen Bomb Calorimeter System have replaced the unit.

We call the new upgraded version - Version 2. The system is middle of the range and available in a variety of system options to suit different customer options.

Digital Data Systems has upgraded the E2K bomb calorimeter system. The system now has full menu control. The system can operate fully without a PC and results can be printed directly to a RS232 printer. PC and software is optional, however the system is now fully operational without software. All menu functions can be done via the calorimeter. We call the new upgraded version - Version 2. The system is middle of the range and available in a variety of system options to suit different customer options. Please note that the E2K does not include the language option and some specifications may vary.

The CAL2K-1 Calorimeter can operate as either a stand-alone unit or via a PC.

The E2K Calorimeter System comes in three different system combinations : the standard system, minimum system and elite system.

The minimum E2K system consists of: 1 x E2K Calorimeter, 1 x E2K Calorimeter Installation Kit, 1 x CAL2K-3 Filling Station, 1 x CAL2K-3 Filling Station Installation Kit, 1 x CAL2K-4 Vessel and 1 x CAL2K-4 Vessel Installation Kit. The above option does not include the CAL2K-2 Cooler, reducing the number of samples per hour.

The Elite System

The elite E2K system consists of : 1 x E2K Calorimeter, 1 x E2K Calorimeter Installation Kit, 1 x CAL2K-2 Cooler, 1 x CAL2K-2 Cooler Installation Kit, 1 x CAL2K-3 Filling Station, 1 x CAL2K-3 Filling Station Installation Kit, 2 x CAL2K-4 Vessels and 2 x CAL2K-4 Vessel Installation Kits.

The above option includes the CAL2K-2 Cooler and includes 2 vessels, increasing the number of samples per hour to 10.

The Vessel

The CAL2K-4 Vessel is the first of its kind and is the heart of the CAL2K System.

Its sophisticated design allows the temperature to be measured to five decimal places in degrees Celsius. The vessel is an intelligent (SMART) vessel with a microprocessor built into its base. The vessel is capable of : firing counts, identification, memory and reconditioning data.

The vessel is the combustion chamber. It is made of stainless steel and tested up to a pressure of 300 atmospheres (4200psi).

The CAL2K Filling Station

The Filling Station is designed to fill the vessel with oxygen to 3Mpa.

The filling rate is controlled so as not to disrupt the sample in the crucible. The Filling Station is extremely easy to operate and requires minimal adjustments and maintenance.

The E2K Water Cooler

The unit is designed to reduce the temperature of a recently fired vessel, obtained from the calorimeter, to ambient temperature in 2-3 minutes.

Solid state cooling is used and the hot junction of the peltier elements is cooled by a continuous trickle of water from the mains water supply.

Air Cooler (Fan)

The e2k calorimeter can be used with a Fan Air Cooler, the e2k-FAN, however this is only applicable with the minimum system option. It takes approximately 20 minutes for the E2K Fan Air Cooler to bring the vessel temperature back to ambient temperature.

Animal Feed Research

Food calories are measured in KJ/g, the same as combustible calories. However, the process is different, although the outcome is the same : KJ/g or heat, or calories. Animal feed stock relies on the animal digestion (conversion). A calorimeter burns the lot and measures the released heat. Then a calorimeter can't be used to measure feed stock?

Coal & Coke Analysis

The coal industry is the traditional application of calorimeters because coal has a variety of properties, apart from being black. If the coal is used for steam generation then the calorific value is of paramount importance. The calorific value, short CV, is a measure of how much heat can be extracted from it.

Explosives Analysis

Only explosives which can be ignited by heat from the calorimeter's firing circuit can be tested in the oxygen calorimeter. Then very minute/small quantities are used for analysis. The calorific value of an explosive is not very high, but the burning speed is.

Fuel Analysis

As a general rule, volatile fuels are measured very seldom because they are very consistent. However, if the fuel absorbs water, then frequent analysis is called for. Volatile fuel such as alcohol must be prevented from evaporating during the handling process that is from weighing to ignition of the sample.

Oil Analysis

Oils are a non-volatile substance. In general they are not measured frequently because they are very consistent and uniform. Other oil properties are more important than the calorific value, such as taste or viscosity. CAL3K-U Oxygen Bomb Calorimeter System | DDS Calorimeters

CAL2K BOMB VESSEL

The oxygen bomb vessel is smaller than the conventional vessels, which results in a smaller heat capacity. Special attention has been given to a thermally balanced vessel desgin which has been achieved using computer aided design (CAD) and computer simulation of heat transfer characteristics.
