The following information applies to the : CAL3K-AP , CAL3K-A, CAL3K-F.
This section refers to the WIRE REPLACEMENT of a RS232 connection. The CAL3K has three ports:
USB | Distance 2 meters | |
DATA#1, RS232 | About 10 meters cable | ~30 meters Wireless |
DATA#2, RS232 | About 10 meters cable | ~30 meters Wireless |
The wire replacement system can be used for:
- LIMS operation
- Any operation possible with USB, such as
- Event management
- Result retrieval
- Other
The wire replacement provides a USB 2.0 connection on the PC side because modern PC’s don’t have an RS232 connector.
PC Dongle (USB) <-----------> dongle CAL3K (RS232)
The dongles have been initialized (paired to each other) by the factory. However, you need to set your PC to accept the dongle (the virtual USB port must be mapped to a RS232 port).
This is done as follows:
Select CONTROL PANEL, then DEVICE MANAGER
Double click on PORTS, then double click on USB SERIAL PORT (COMxxx)
If the port number is 1-4, then no further action is required.
If not: Click on PORT SETTINGS, ADVANCED, COM PORT NUMBER, select 1-4
They may be ‘InUse’, it doesn’t matter, unless a different service runs on it.
That’s it!
To test the wireless link:
Connect both dongles. Then open the CAL3K software program select TOOLS, select Communication setup and select:
RS232 at 115.2Kb and the port (1-4) which you have chosen previously.
Wait a while! You should see a light flashing on the PC dongle, and the communication bar at the bottom of the screen should move. You have now the same connection as with the USB port.
CONNECT A PC TO THE CAL3K
