The outside electrode with a sleeve is used to hold the crucible with sample inside the vessel. The outside electrode is shaped with a hook which holds the crucible, suspending it inside the bomb vessel.

Life Span: Depends on the samples you are testing and the amount of firings. Typically, the life span of the outside electrode is about 50 firings and should be replaced when needed.
